Unilorin Alumni Association Reacts to Train Derailment

The University of Ilorin Alumni Association, Lagos Chapter, has reacted to the recent train derailment involving the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).

In a statement signed by its chairperson, Engr Isiwat Lawal, and general secretary, Barr J.J. Ajadi, the group commiserated with the NRC’s Managing Director, Dr Kayode Opeifa, over the incident. The association expressed relief that no life was lost in the derailment, describing it as a temporary setback for the rail service.

Dr Opeifa, an alumnus of the university, has held several transport-related roles in the past, including serving as Transportation Secretary in the Federal Capital Territory and heading the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The alumni body stated that it was confident the NRC, under his watch, would recover quickly from the disruption and continue its efforts to improve railway services in the country. The derailment, which occurred recently, is part of a series of challenges the NRC has faced as it works to expand passenger and cargo rail services across Nigeria.
