The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has unveiled a visionary plan charting the institution’s next 50 years, emphasising excellence, innovation, and global engagement.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, presented the roadmap during the grand finale of the university’s Golden Jubilee celebrations on November 27, 2025.
Prof. Egbewole outlined strategies to enhance research impact through grant support, interdisciplinary platforms, and commercialisation of academic outputs. He stressed the integration of creative, digital, and AI-aligned approaches in teaching, supported by a responsible academic AI policy.
Expanding global partnerships, exchange programmes, and joint research centres with top institutions worldwide were highlighted as key objectives.
The Vice-Chancellor urged students, staff, alumni and partners to actively contribute to UNILORIN’s ambitious trajectory, encouraging alumni investment, mentorship, and collaboration.
He called on government and industry stakeholders to help translate research into practical solutions for societal challenges, including renewable energy, climate change, digital health, and food security.
Pro-Chancellor Surveyor Jacob Abiodun Aluko celebrated the university’s transformation from 200 pioneer students in 1975 to over 50,000 learners today, describing the Golden Jubilee as a defining moment in the institution’s history.
