The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof Wahab Egbewole, says the institution is finalising arrangements to deploy at least 100 electric vehicles to ease students’ movement across campus following the recent relocation of the University Park.
In a message to students, Prof Egbewole said the EVs, alongside additional buses, were expected to arrive “within the next few days” as the University works to ease ongoing transport difficulties. He praised students for their calmness and cooperation during the transition, describing their conduct as “responsible and exemplary”.
He said the decision to relocate the Park was based on security and safety concerns and was not intended to inconvenience students. The University, he noted, is working “tirelessly” to restore normalcy, adding that the challenges would soon ease.
Prof Egbewole has been visiting the new Park daily between 6:30 am and 9:00 am to observe operations first-hand. Speaking at the site, he commended staff and students for maintaining order and thanked the Works Department and Security Unit for facilitating the new system.
He added that compressed natural gas (CNG) buses were also expected soon, expressing confidence that the transport situation was steadily improving.
