Prof. Wahab Egbewole, Vice Chancellor, UNILORIN
The University of Ilorin’s Faculty of Environmental Sciences has presented an Award of Excellence to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Wahab Egbewole, in recognition of his support for the Faculty’s growth and international engagement. The award was announced on November 12, shortly after the close of the 3rd International Conference of Environmental Sciences (ICES 2025).
The conference, organised in partnership with the Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) in Estonia, drew participants from Nigeria and abroad. Dean of the Faculty, Prof Ganiyu Amuda-Yusuf, praised the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership, saying his backing for research collaboration and global partnerships helped position the Faculty on the international stage.
Prof Amuda-Yusuf was joined by the keynote speaker, Prof Emlyn Witt of TalTech, and the Local Organising Committee Chair, Dr Theophilus Olowa, in presenting the award.
Responding, Prof Egbewole said the recognition would spur him to continue strengthening academic excellence across the university. He commended the Faculty for successfully hosting the international conference, describing it as evidence of Unilorin’s commitment to advancing environmental research.
He also urged Prof Witt to ensure the effective rollout of the new Memorandum of Understanding between Unilorin and TalTech, saying the partnership should drive joint research, academic exchange and capacity building.
