The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has approved its 2025 Cultural and Social Week, to run from September 13 to 21 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily.
In a circular issued by the Acting Dean of Students, Dr Mohammed Yahaya, the university said the week-long programme is designed to foster unity, promote cultural appreciation and provide students with relief from academic stress. Academic activities will continue alongside the event.
The management, however, banned the popular “sign-out” ceremony often held by graduating students, warning that anyone found flouting the directive would face disciplinary action. The university said the decision was part of efforts to maintain discipline and ensure academic focus.
“All students are encouraged to participate in the 2025 Social and Cultural Week approved by the university management to celebrate students’ academic achievements,” the statement read.
The circular, dated September 13, was copied to senior officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Chief Security Officer, as well as the Students’ Union Government.
