Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has approved a new, uniform format for writing names across all official documents to ensure consistency and align with global best practices.
The decision, reached at a recent Senate meeting, was announced in a circular issued by the Registrar, Mrs Atinuke Oguntunde, on October 2.
Under the new rule, names will now be written in the order of First Name / Middle Name / Last Name (Surname), with the surname written in uppercase letters. For example, “Atinuke Abosede OGUNTUNDE.” The same rule applies to all university records, communications, and identity documents.
For individuals with two names, the approved order is First Name / Last Name (Surname). Initials should be written before surnames in uppercase, such as “A.A. OGUNTUNDE.”
Mrs Oguntunde said the move was part of efforts to improve administrative efficiency, eliminate confusion in record-keeping, and standardise documentation for both staff and students.
She added that compliance is mandatory across all departments as part of ongoing reforms to strengthen the university’s professionalism and global competitiveness.
