The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Borno State, has announced plans to launch an endowment fund.
According to the management, the fund will support innovation, sustain scholarships, and bridge funding gaps.
Shedding light on the fund at the press conference in preparation for the university’s 25th convocation, Mohammed Mele, the Vice-Chancellor, noted that underfunding is one of the institution’s key challenges.
The Vice-Chancellor noted, “I think funding remains our biggest challenge. University education is underfunded, which is why we are launching the UNIMAID Endowment Fund to help bridge funding gaps. We are facing many challenges ranging from manpower to infrastructure upgrades, among others.”
He then urged the alumni association, corporate bodies, philanthropists, and development partners to contribute to the initiative and make the institution more globally impactful.
