The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Professor Clement Adebooye, has urged Nigerian youths to channel their creativity into building successful careers at home rather than chasing uncertain opportunities abroad.
Speaking at the 2025 Entrepreneurship Studies and Innovation Training Programme, recently held at the university’s Osogbo campus, Adebooye described Nigeria as a land full of opportunities for those ready to think innovatively. “Nigeria is a land of opportunities for everyone. Identify your area of strength, build on it, and success will come. If you can think out of the box, you can achieve more here than in the United States or Canada,” he said. The Vice-Chancellor lamented the trend of professionals abandoning lucrative careers in Nigeria for low-skilled jobs abroad. “It pains me to see managers and professionals leave to take jobs that strip them of dignity,” he noted, calling on graduates to use their knowledge to drive nation-building.
Dr Dayo Sobowale of FUOYE, delivering the keynote, stressed the need for combining vocational training with business acumen. At the same time, Dr Adepeju Adigun, Director of UNIOSUN’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies, reiterated the school’s commitment to producing job creators, not seekers.
