Prof Owunari Georgewill, VC, University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)
The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has reconstituted the Board of Uniport Investments Limited (UIL) to strengthen financial governance and enhance revenue generation. The inauguration was conducted by Vice-Chancellor Professor Owunari Georgewill.
Chief (Hon.) Mene Kadilo Kabari was appointed Chairman of the Board, joined by the Registrar, Bursar, University Librarian, Council Representative, and the Head of Legal Unit as Company Secretary. The Managing Director, Prof. Micah Leyira, will oversee operations alongside representatives from the Senate and the Congregation.
According to the University, the reconstitution aligns with recommendations from the Presidential White Paper/Visitation Panel Report and directives from the 17th Governing Council. UIL is expected to function as a private-sector-driven revenue generator while the University retains strategic ownership.
In his address, Georgewill dissolved all previous task forces to prevent operational conflicts and charged the new Board with delivering measurable results for both Management and Council.
Chief Kabari pledged to implement reforms to improve operational efficiency and boost the University’s revenue from business ventures.
