The University of Uyo and Edinburgh Napier University, with support from the British Council, will boost digital skills in Nigeria’s construction sector through the DT4TVET project.
The initiative aligns with the National Strategy for Digital Technologies in Technical Vocational Education and Training, Dr Dubem Isaac Ikediashi, principal investigator, said.
More than 40 participants from technical schools, monotechnics, polytechnics, and skill-acquisition centres nationwide will receive training in January 2026.
Ahead of the training, a high-level stakeholders’ meeting will convene policymakers, industry leaders, professional bodies, and educators to devise strategies for the nationwide implementation of digital construction education.
The project builds on a successful three-day DT4TVET workshop held in Uyo from October 15-17, 2025, which equipped trainers with cutting-edge digital skills to enhance construction education.
Dr Ikediashi highlighted that the collaboration aims to develop a cohesive national strategy to ensure the gains from the DT4TVET initiative translate into sustainable, long-term improvements in Nigeria’s construction education and workforce development.
