The University of Uyo has launched a new institutional policy to combat sexual harassment, reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance against all forms of sexual misconduct.
At the official launch held at the TETFund Hall on the main campus, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Nyaudo Ndaeyo, said the policy shows the university’s commitment to justice, accountability and the protection of every member of its academic community.
He described the move as a decisive step toward eradicating sexual molestation on campus and ensuring offenders face appropriate sanctions.
Wife of the Vice-Chancellor, Mrs Uduakabasi Ndaeyo, commended the initiative as timely, noting that it addresses a deep-rooted societal problem within tertiary institutions.
Similarly, chairperson of the Centre for Gender Studies, Prof Valerie Asanwana, said the policy reinforces the university’s core values of equity, excellence and respect for all. She explained that the framework provides clear, transparent, and victim-centred procedures for reporting, investigating and resolving cases.
