UNIZIK Alumni Launches Scholarship to Support Poor Students

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Alumni Association has recently launched a scholarship programme to help low-income students at the school continue their education and achieve their academic goals.

The event took place in Awka with the theme “Empowering Dreams, Building the Future.” It was declared open by the university’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Angela Ufele-Obiesie, whom the Director of Academic Planning represented.

Speaking at the event, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi, praised the Alumni Association for its efforts to support financially struggling students. He was represented by Engr. Dr Paul Okolie, a member of the university’s governing Council. Barrister Kukoyi stated that he had consistently received tremendous support from the alumni since becoming Pro-Chancellor. He encouraged them to keep working together to grow and improve the university.

The Chief of Staff to the Anambra State Government, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, gave the keynote speech. He commended the Alumni Association for creating chances for less privileged students. He also advised those who benefit from the scholarship to remember to help others when they become successful.

Mr. Ezeajughi also took the opportunity to highlight the policies of Governor Charles Soludo, which are designed to support the poor in Anambra State. The Global President of the Alumni Association, Associate Professor Ikechukwu Umeh, stated that the association is committed to continually supporting underprivileged students. He thanked donors for their support and announced that the scholarship will now be a regular programme for students in need.

Chairman of the event and member of the university’s governing Council, Dr Ndubuisi Nwobu, also thanked everyone who contributed and called on more people to support the good cause. He made it clear that the scholarship is meant only for students who truly cannot afford to pay their fees. The Association’s Vice President for the South East, Mr. Francis Ochonma, described the scholarship as a noble project for poor students. He also used the opportunity to endorse Governor Soludo for a second term, praising his leadership.

Dr Kevin Njoku, Chairman of the Owerri branch of the Alumni Association, supported the scholarship scheme, stating that it would help students succeed in school. He promised that his branch would continue to support the welfare of its members.
