The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has celebrated the graduation of its first Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) cohort, marking a key step toward aligning its pharmacy education with global standards.
The six-year professional programme retains the scientific foundation of the Bachelor of Pharmacy while expanding into clinical areas, including pharmacovigilance, patient counselling, and evidence-based therapeutic care.
It includes extensive hospital exposure and a compulsory six-month clerkship to prepare pharmacists for patient-centred healthcare. Graduate described the programme as transformative, equipping pharmacists with clinical decision-making skills.
The pioneer class’s project defence and signing-out activities signal the completion of all academic obligations. UNN’s adoption of the Pharm D model places it among Nigerian institutions advancing pharmacy training in line with international clinical practice standards.
