Chief Engr Success Obioma Akagburuonye, founder of Hope Rising for Imolites and MD/CEO of PRACO International Ltd, Abuja, has been recognised for his extensive philanthropic contributions by the Imo Professors Forum (IPF) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). The award of Excellence in Service to Humanity was presented during the Forum’s 3rd Heartland Lecture on Wednesday.
IPF Chairman, Prof. Boniface Nworga, highlighted Akagburuonye’s impact through his NGO, which has empowered over 5,000 youths with skills in solar energy, CCTV installation, computer applications, and entrepreneurship.
Many beneficiaries have reportedly established successful businesses and achieved financial independence. The philanthropist also previously donated solar panels and batteries to the homes of Imo professors at UNN, ensuring uninterrupted electricity for both academic and personal use.
Receiving the honour, Akagburuonye pledged to continue supporting education and youth development, citing his humble beginnings and commitment to serving humanity as motivation.
He also praised Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State for his transformative governance. He announced a N10 million donation to IPF, as well as funding for final-year UNN students from Imo State to cover clearance costs, a gesture that was met with applause from the students.
The event, chaired by Rt Hon Goodluck Opia, former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, underlined the growing influence of private initiatives in fostering education, economic empowerment, and social development in the region.
