UNSW Tops in Computational Mathematics and Analysis

UNSW Sydney has been named Australia’s leading institution in Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Analysis by The Australian’s 2026 Research magazine.

The recognition reflects research quality, impact and sustained excellence, marking the fifth consecutive year for Computational Mathematics and the second year for Mathematical Analysis.

The School of Mathematics and Statistics has consistently excelled, with members including Vaithilingam Jeya Jeyakumar, Frances Kuo, Guoyin Li, and Fedor Sukochev, who are recognised as leading researchers in their respective fields.

Emeritus Professor Ian Sloan praised the Computational Mathematics group for combining youthful energy with experience. At the same time, Scientia Prof. Fedor Sukochev highlighted the Analysis team’s work across noncommutative analysis, Banach space geometry, differential geometry, and mathematical physics.
