As the August 16 bye-election for the Sagamu-Ikenne-Remo North federal constituency approaches, U.S.-educated technologist and education advocate, Solomon Oyekan Adesina, has officially declared his candidacy under the Action Alliance (AA) party, with a campaign focused on transforming public education and digital literacy in Ogun State.
Adesina’s journey began in Sagamu, where he attended Remo Secondary School. His pursuit of academic excellence later took him to the United States in 2015, where he earned an Associate of Science in Database and Management, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Informatics Technology from Indiana University. He is currently finalising a Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, an emerging field that explores the relationship between people and digital technologies.
Now seeking to represent his constituency at the federal level, Adesina brings a platform built on expanding access to quality education, integrating technology into classrooms, and preparing youths for the digital economy. “If we want a prosperous future, we must begin by fixing education. Our schools must not just teach; they must prepare,” he stated. He emphasises policy advocacy for better school infrastructure, digital skills training, and scholarships for underprivileged students. According to Adesina, education is the single most effective tool to lift communities out of poverty, and he intends to leverage both his international exposure and grassroots understanding to deliver meaningful reforms.
