Yaba College of Technology was named the best tourism tertiary institution in South-West Nigeria at the 2025 South-West International Tourism Expo in Lagos.
The award was announced at the expo in Ikeja, where institutions from across the region, as well as Ghana, showcased their work.
Organisers said Yaba College of Technology stood out for its cultural performance, creativity, craftsmanship and overall exhibition quality.
Students from the institution’s Tourism Management Technology department presented projects that impressed both judges and visitors throughout the event.
Samson Apata, vice president of the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria, said the college ranked first among nearly 15 participating institutions. He noted that the exhibition stand, designed entirely by students, attracted strong interest, with many visitors surprised that the work was produced by undergraduates.
He said the judging process was independent and transparent, adding that the award was presented separately to avoid any perception of favouritism.
The rector of Yaba College of Technology, Ibraheem Abdul, welcomed the recognition, describing it as an affirmation of the institution’s commitment to high-quality training and cultural innovation. He praised the students for their discipline and teamwork, noting that the award would encourage the college to strengthen academic standards further and expand partnerships with the tourism industry.
