The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), the Foundation for African Space Education and Science Advancement (FASESA), and aerospace company Boeing have jointly trained over 5,000 Nigerian students in space science and technology.
The initiative, designed to inspire young minds in science and innovation, culminated in a graduation ceremony at Premier Academy, Abuja.
Representing NASRDA Director-General Matthew Adepoju, Assistant Director Olayinka Fagbero described the programme as a “record-breaking stride” in Africa’s space journey.
She announced plans for Nigerian students to participate in global space programmes annually, noting that the initiative remains free for schools nationwide. Fagbero also acknowledged Nigeria’s 25-year presence in space research, stressing that the country has yet to reach its full potential.
FASESA Founder Sean Jacobs highlighted the need for more substantial support from governments, schools, and parents to help African students lead in space exploration.
The programme, already running in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ethiopia, is part of a global effort to expand space education across Africa.
