Dr Ola Adebogun, Proprietor and Director of Caleb Group of Schools and Visitor to Caleb University, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s call for Nigerian students to preserve analytical and critical thinking in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).
Adebogun described the President’s remarks as timely and necessary, noting that technology should enhance, rather than replace, human reasoning. “Ignorance cannot substitute for learning,” he said, urging students to balance innovation with intellectual engagement.
He praised the Federal Government’s partnerships with Google and Awarri Technologies to develop AI software that reflects Nigeria’s languages, culture, and social realities, describing the initiatives as vital for inclusive digital growth.
According to him, AI offers immense potential, including accelerated learning, higher productivity, new entrepreneurial opportunities, and cultural preservation when applied responsibly. However, he cautioned against the dangers of overdependence, including the erosion of critical thinking, bias in AI models, data privacy risks, and job displacement.
Adebogun called for a balanced strategy that combines innovation with ethics, education, and governance. He advocated curricular reforms to promote AI literacy, funding for local AI research and policies ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness in deployment.
