Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) hosted senior officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration on road safety initiatives.
Led by Unit Commander Abiodun Ogunwumi, the delegation commended AFUED for its support in promoting safety consciousness among students, staff, and the surrounding community. Ogunwumi highlighted recent accidents in the region, stressing the need for intensified awareness campaigns and stricter adherence to traffic regulations, particularly during the “ember months” when road accidents tend to rise.
The FRSC announced an upcoming enlightenment programme on 4 December at the university to educate stakeholders on safe road practices. Participation from the university community is expected to bolster discussions on reducing traffic incidents.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola praised the Corps’ joint initiatives and reaffirmed AFUED’s commitment to public safety collaboration. He also flagged safety concerns at Lipakala Junction and Laje Road, urging the FRSC to intervene to address traffic congestion and the risk of motorcycle riding.
The Vice-Chancellor called for enhanced professionalism within the Corps to strengthen public trust, while Ogunwumi assured that the concerns would be escalated to relevant authorities. Both parties reiterated their commitment to promoting safer roads through sustained engagement and community education.
