Newly recruited academic staff at Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) have been urged to adhere strictly to the ethics of the teaching profession to ensure successful and sustainable careers.
The advice came from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola, during an orientation programme organised by the Academic Staff Transition Committee (ASTC).
Represented by his deputy, Professor Ireti Folasade Alao, Prof. Popoola highlighted the importance of familiarising with university rules and regulations to avoid professional misconduct.
“Having a skill is one thing; holding onto the job requires adherence to ethics,” he said. “Understanding the environment and its regulations is essential for career growth and longevity.”
The one-day programme, held at the Obongawan Grace Ekong Lecture Theatre, introduced over 100 new staff to key aspects of university life. Sessions covered research, publication, departmental relationships, teaching effectiveness, legal implications of actions, and stress management. Experienced academics and professionals, including Professors M.O. Ogunboyede and S.O. Olagunju, Associate Professor A.B. Ale, Barrister Robert Akinkuoye, and Dr Ibunkunoluwa Eddison Johnson, led the sessions.
Chairman of ASTC AFUED, Dr Ajisafe O.E., described the programme as vital for equipping staff with the knowledge and skills to navigate the academic environment effectively, emphasising the union’s commitment to supporting institutional development.
