The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi (SAN), has said President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda places education, digital economy development, and human capital at the centre of Nigeria’s national development strategy.
Fagbemi made the remarks during a lecture at the 9th convocation ceremony of the Federal University Lokoja, titled “The Intersection of Law, Digital Technology and Human Resourcefulness in Transforming University Education in Nigeria.”
He said the administration’s policy recognises Nigeria’s demographic advantage and aims to prepare citizens for productive participation in the global economy through investments in educational excellence, curriculum reforms, technology integration, and institutional capacity building.
The minister noted that 67 new higher institutions were established in the past two years, focusing on specialised fields such as agriculture, environment, health sciences, sports, and technology. He added that a recent moratorium on new universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education aims to address underenrolment and resource allocation issues, allowing the government to improve quality and facilities in existing institutions.
Fagbemi emphasised that transforming Nigerian university education requires collective responsibility, urging universities, students, and society to support reforms while maintaining accountability and academic standards.
