AI, Automation Changing How Accountants Work

In 2025, the accounting profession is no longer about crunching numbers. A new report from Intuit QuickBooks now shows that artificial intelligence (AI) and automation are changing the game for accountants.

In a recent survey involving 700 professionals, nearly half of the accountants confessed that they now use AI daily in their jobs, and 95% agree that they use some form of automation. These AI tools are helping accountants save time and work more accurately. Thanks to the AI tools, they can do more than traditional bookkeeping. Many accountants can now perform other roles, such as business advisors, offering deeper insights and financial strategies to their clients.

Despite this opportunity, some challenges remain. Many accounting firms and clients still resist change, and some professionals struggle to keep up with the rapid advancements in technology. Experts say that for firms to grow, they must embrace innovation. AI and automation are not just helpful—they are now essential tools in modern accounting.
