Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), has said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not the future but the now. He mentioned that AI should be applied to agriculture to ensure food security in Nigeria and Africa.
The VC emphasised that AI tools can help farmers detect pests early, manage resources, and determine the optimal planting time. Rahman added that AI tools, such as robotic harvesters, can identify and pick ripe fruit, reduce post-harvest losses, and address labour shortages.
Calling on stakeholders, he admonished them to invest in infrastructure and to ensure technology benefits all.
