Following an investigative report by PUNCH Healthwise exposing major infrastructural decay, staff shortages, and critical equipment failures at the Ibom Multi-Speciality Hospital in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the hospital management has commenced a fresh recruitment of healthcare personnel.
A vacancy notice obtained by our correspondent on Thursday, signed by the Director of Administration, T. T. Ikpe, on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, announced openings for nursing officers, medical officers, and pharmacists. According to the notice, qualified applicants are to submit their applications and credentials to the Chief Medical Director’s office within one week of the advertisement.
Three reliable sources within the hospital confirmed that management had officially announced a job vacancy, following recent concerns over staff shortages. One of the sources, who requested anonymity to avoid victimisation, revealed that the vacancies were posted on July 30. According to him, the decision comes in direct response to a severe shortage of medical personnel, one of the issues exposed by PUNCH Healthwise’s investigation. “Yes, the opening was released on July 30, and it is because there is a severe shortage of workers, which your investigation exposed,” the source said.
He noted that since the report was published, there has been a noticeable shift within the hospital. “Everybody is more conscious now. I believe this new development is just the beginning; more changes are coming.” Another insider confirmed that many doctors have expressed relief at the announcement, hoping it will ease the current workload and improve overall operations. “Most of us are relieved. At least we are going to have more hands, and the pressure will reduce from what it used to be,” the source noted.
