Chief Tunde Afolabi, CON, Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, marked his 75th birthday on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos, attended by thousands of well-wishers, family, and friends.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief (Dr.) Olutoyin Okeowo, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Mrs.) Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, FNAL, her deputy Prof. Muyiwa Popoola, and other university officials. Guests included Royal Fathers, captains of industry, clergy, and community leaders.
Chief Afolabi, founder of the Josephus Foundation, has long supported education in Nigeria, providing scholarships and endowments to students of Ajayi Crowther University and beyond. The homily celebrated his philanthropy, dedication to community service, and lifelong commitment to uplifting others.
Despite a heavy downpour, the celebration continued at a reception in Victoria Island, described by one guest as a “rain of joy,” with music by Chike Praise, Yinka Alaseyori, and other gospel artists. Chief Afolabi, joined by family and university officials, danced joyfully, reflecting the jubilant spirit of the occasion.
Highlights included the cutting of a giant birthday cake and the unveiling of a commemorative banner presented by Prof. Oduwole on behalf of the university’s leadership and beneficiaries of the Josephus Foundation. The event celebrated a life devoted to service, education, and community development.
