Al-Muhibbah Open University, Abuja, has appointed Professor Yahuza Bello, former vice-chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, as its new pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council. The announcement was made during a joint session of the institution’s Board of Trustees and Governing Council in Abuja.
Speaking at the meeting, the university’s chancellor and Bauchi State First Lady, Aisha Bala Mohammed, said the appointment reflected the institution’s commitment to strong governance and global best practices in higher education.
She praised the university’s progress since its establishment two years ago, including the completion of two uninterrupted academic sessions, and urged Nigerians to take advantage of its programmes to enhance skills and job opportunities. She also called on the federal government to expand support for private and community education initiatives, particularly for girls.
In his remarks, Bello pledged to advance the university’s strategic vision and announced the opening of admissions for the 2025/2026 academic session, promising “quality, innovation, and integrity.” He encouraged young people to embrace digital learning and urged the government to resolve labour disputes affecting the education sector.
Other council members present included Professor Garba Aliyu Babaji, Ibrahim Saidu Jahun, Professor Ibrahim Maqari, and Engineer Shamsudeen Bala Mohammed.
