The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) has urged stakeholders to engage with policymakers to make Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education accessible to the girl-child.
Dr Adebisi Osim, APWEN President, gave this remark while celebrating the International Day of Women in Engineering (INWED) organised by the association. Osim referenced a report by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), stating that only 28 per cent of the world’s engineering graduates are women, with just 15 per cent of them taking leadership roles in Nigeria.
She said, “We must equip women engineers with artificial intelligence, automation, and data analytics skills. According to the World Economic Forum, the jobs of tomorrow in engineering will demand hybrid skills, and women must not be left behind.”
