The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has welcomed the appointment of Professor Eboserehimen Eunice Omonzejie as the institution’s substantive vice-chancellor.
In a statement signed by the chapter’s chairman, Dr Cyril Onogbosele, and secretary, Dr William Odion, the union described the decision by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, as a response to its long-standing call for stable leadership at the university.
Professor Omonzejie, from the Department of Modern Languages, succeeds Professor Samuel Olowo, who had been acting vice-chancellor since August 2024.
ASUU said her familiarity with the university’s challenges and her academic record positioned her to strengthen efforts to reposition the state-owned institution.
“We warmly congratulate the newly appointed substantive vice-chancellor as well as the Governor of Edo State for this appointment, with the assurance of healthy collaboration for sustainable industrial harmony in the university,” the union said.
Professor Omonzejie is a scholar of French and Francophone African literature. She has previously served as President of the university’s chapter of the National Association of Women Academics and has co-edited several works.
