Atiku Abubakar Urges Education as Catalyst for National Change

During the American University of Nigeria’s (AUN) 17th Founder’s Day, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar called for education to serve as the foundation for Nigeria’s transformation.

Speaking at the Lamido Aliyu Musdafa Commencement Hall, he stressed that neglecting education poses the gravest threat to the nation, surpassing challenges like insecurity and ethnic divisions.

Atiku outlined a vision for safe, modern schools, updated curricula, and robust healthcare systems that empower students. He emphasised that education mitigates violence, poverty, and disenfranchisement while fostering social cohesion and economic growth.

Highlighting AUN’s non-profit model, he praised the university for reinvesting in student development and setting a standard for excellence in learning.

He also urged students, staff and alumni to champion educational and healthcare reforms, engage in community initiatives, and drive innovations that cultivate future leaders.

Concluding, Atiku reinforced the transformative power of education: “Through education, we can rewrite our destiny. Together, let us harness our collective potential to build a foundation that uplifts individuals, strengthens communities, and ultimately transforms Nigeria.”
