Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, has appointed Rt. Hon. Dame Winifred Akpani as Pro-Chancellor and Rev. Prof. Anthony Alaba Akinwale as Vice-Chancellor ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The university held a thanksgiving Mass on Friday, August 29 2025, to mark the end of the five-year tenure of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Odetunde, and to formally inaugurate his successor, Rev. Prof. Akinwale.
Delivering the homily, the University Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Andrew Toye, urged the university community to remain steadfast in nurturing students with values of truth, character, and service, likening the institution’s resilience to the endurance of the Catholic Church.
A reception followed at the University Cafeteria, where tributes were paid to Prof. Odetunde in recognition of his service. The event also featured the formal presentation of the new Vice-Chancellor by Dame Akpani and the unveiling of Rev. Prof. Akinwale’s new book, Truth in the Waters of Wisdom.
Dignitaries at the ceremony included Dame Doja Otedola, HRM Oba (Dr.) Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, clergy from the Archdiocese of Lagos and Ijebu-Ode Diocese, as well as staff, friends, and well-wishers of the university.
