Police in Bauchi State have arrested a woman, identified as Zuwaira Hassan, for allegedly inflicting severe burns on the private parts of a minor with a hot object in Magama-Gumau, Toro Local Government Area.
The victim, a girl aged about 10, is receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) after sustaining serious injuries.
Confirming the incident, the state police command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, said the case was reported on September 11 by one Yahuza Usman, the victim’s brother. He disclosed that detectives evacuated the child to the hospital for medical attention before arresting the suspect.
According to the police, Hassan confessed during interrogation that she acted based on suspicions of witchcraft after consulting a local herbalist. She allegedly used a hot metal object on the victim’s private parts.
