Bauchi Police Arrest 48 Students After Polytechnic Unrest

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Ahmed Wakil, who made this known in a statement, said the Command received intelligence of a security breach after unidentified hoodlums allegedly jumped the school fence and stole students’ phones.

Recall that the management of the polytechnic announced the immediate shutdown of the institution following a violent raid on the male students’ hostel by hoodlums that led to the protest on campus. However, the police spokesperson Wakil, has now announced that, “The Command immediately drafted a reinforcement team and dispatched it to the scene and attempted to disperse the illegal crowd, which encountered resistance, resulting in the application of minimal force, and successfully controlled the situation and arrested thirty-six (36) male suspects and twelve (12) female suspects who were directly and involved in the violent act.”

He stated further investigation led to the arrest of three alleged armed robbers identified as Mansur Yakubu (20), Abbas Auwal (20), and Musa Bala (20), all from the Lushi area, adding that the prime suspect (Musa Bala) confessed that he was invited by one Daddy, a resident of Birshin Fulani, who is allegedly the mastermind of the crime, to carry out the robbery, specifically in the student’s hostels. Wakil said the prime suspect further disclosed that he was an ex-convict on the same offence for which he served a two-year jail term previously, and he was just released from the correctional centre not later than three (3) months ago.
