Miss Faidat Sonia Adetu, who emerged as the Best Graduating Student at Osun State University’s 15th convocation, delivered an inspiring speech that drew admiration from guests and fellow graduates.
Adetu, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.86. Addressing the gathering, she described the ceremony as not just a celebration of academic achievement but “the beginning of a greater journey.”
Quoting Isaac Newton’s famous words, “If I have seen far, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants,” she noted the value of mentorship and teamwork, urging graduates to embrace collaboration as they enter the next phase of their lives.
Adetu expressed gratitude to her lecturers, mentors, siblings, friends, and, most emotionally, her parents, whom she described as her most significant pillars of support.
Recalling her earlier struggles after winning Best Female Science Student in Nigeria in 2020, she said perseverance and family support helped her overcome challenges, dedicating her achievement to her parents.
Adetu concluded by congratulating the Class of 2025 and urging them to pursue their dreams with integrity and purpose. She also offered prayers for the continued growth of the university and the prosperity of the state of Osun.
The event was attended by the University Chancellor, the Governing Council, and Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
