The Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Abdullahi Usman Baba, has called on Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to take urgent action against rising attacks on students. His open letter follows the killing of Umar Abdullahi Hafizi, a penultimate-year student stabbed to death in Dorayi Karshen Waya by suspected thugs.
Baba demanded the creation of a strong student-protection framework, swift arrest and prosecution of culprits, and decisive measures to end the violence. He warned that the “blood of our students stains the very fabric of this state” and urged the government to ensure accountability. The letter was also sent to NANS, security agencies, and the ministries of justice and education to push for broader action. Baba said the statement marked “just the beginning” of the students’ march toward justice.
