Cambridge University Press & Assessment has signed a partnership agreement with the African Union’s Economic, Social, and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) to develop educational initiatives aimed at preparing Africa’s youth for the future.
The agreement was signed in New York on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Africa is home to the world’s fastest-growing youth population, with 60% of its population under the age of 25. By 2050, one in four people on Earth is expected to live on the continent.
ECOSOCC Presiding Officer Louis Cheick Sissoko said the partnership will amplify citizens’ voices and support the African Union’s agenda for sustainable development and educational transformation. Dr Anna Kingsley of Cambridge added that collaboration would ensure “sustainable impact” through mutual learning.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlines four focus areas: integrating digital education tools and learning systems, innovating curricula to equip students with employable skills, strengthening African civil society in leadership and governance, and building strategic multi-stakeholder partnerships to maximise resources.
The initiative marks a step towards building resilient, future-focused education systems across Africa, addressing both opportunities and challenges posed by rapid demographic growth.
