Chibok School Abduction Survivor Wins Startup Pitch Award

A survivor of the 2014 Chibok schoolgirl abduction, Mary Katambi, has won the final “Idea to Venture” pitch organised by the Sought After School of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (SASIE).

Katambi’s startup, Kaiki, is an online marketplace promoting sustainable fashion and eco-friendly household goods. She said the platform aims to encourage recycling, sustainable living and community empowerment.

She credited the SASIE programme with giving her the confidence and tools to turn her idea into a viable business. She expressed gratitude for the support she received during the process.

Also recognised at the event was Dr Irene Udebuana, founder of Robotprof, a climate-tech education project that introduces children aged seven to 16 to coding, robotics and green-technology skills.

SASIE founder Dr Jennifer D Daniel praised the winners, saying they reflected the organisation’s mission to unlock bold ideas and build women-led ventures across Africa.
