A 19-year-old Nigerian student, Isaac Otiti, has been named the youngest valedictorian at Ghana’s Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) after graduating with a first-class degree in computer engineering.
Otiti enrolled at the university in 2021 at the age of 15. Over eight semesters, he completed 55 courses and earned an “A” in each, finishing with a Cumulative Weighted Average of 87.23. The feat secured him the title of best graduating student in both his faculty and the entire university class of 2024.
His journey was not without challenges. As a child, he experienced sudden hearing loss that left him socially withdrawn for nearly a year. His hearing later returned following treatment and family support, which he described as a turning point in his life.
Otiti later moved with his family to Ghana, where he attended Seven Great Princes Academy in Accra, graduating as the top student in his class before gaining admission to KNUST. Initially interested in medicine, he said he was drawn to computer engineering for its problem-solving and innovative potential.
