Innocent Ohagwa, CITN President and Council Chairman
The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has assured the public that the new tax regime, effective January 2026, is designed to strengthen the economy and not target any individual or business.
CITN President and Council Chairman, Innocent Ohagwa, speaking at the Pre-Induction Orientation Programme, said vulnerable entities earning up to N100 million and other grey areas have been addressed.
He described the reform as an “ease of doing business” measure, highlighting exemptions and waivers for many categories, particularly low-income earners.
Ohagwa warned that businesses or individuals outside the tax net may face challenges once integration begins, urging them to regularise their status with tax authorities to ensure smooth compliance. He stressed that voluntary compliance will enable Nigerians to fully benefit from the reform.
Guest speaker Joseph Alatishe, Associate Director at Deloitte, advised prospective inductees to uphold transparency, accountability and ethical conduct, noting that the success of the reform depends on responsible tax practice.
He expressed optimism that the CITN-supported reform will improve coverage and efficiency, ensuring a more inclusive and fair tax system across Nigeria.
