Deborah Adewale, Impact Officer of the Global Shapers Ota Hub in Ogun State, has represented Nigeria at the 2025 Global Shapers Annual Summit held at the World Economic Forum headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
Selected by the leadership of the Ota Hub, Adewale was among 500 young leaders from over 150 countries who gathered from July 9 to 11 under the summit’s theme, “Next Generation Now.” The event focused on redefining leadership, climate action, innovation, and youth preparedness for the future of work.
Adewale’s selection was in recognition of her consistent community work, including her leadership in youth development, inclusive education, and participatory governance. At the summit, she emphasised the need to localise global solutions and empower communities through people-centred leadership. “I have always believed in being an active contributor to society. Leadership is about service,” she said, attributing her values to her father, Mr. Adewale Adekoya, known for his contributions to community development.
A certified project manager and gender advocate, Adewale has led initiatives such as a Jobberman/MasterCard Foundation project that trained 20,000 women in entrepreneurship and digital skills programmes in schools. She has also partnered with the Ogun State SDGs Office to enhance regional impact. In her role at the Ota Hub, Adewale aims to deepen collaboration, expand youth platforms, and launch innovative, scalable solutions to address pressing local challenges. Her presence at the Geneva summit reinforces the growing influence of Nigerian youth on the global stage.
