Prof. Ezekiel Ayoola, the University of Ibadan’s (UI) immediate former Vice Chancellor (Administration), has urged the federal government (FG) to invest in mathematics.
He elaborated that the mathematical sciences are the core of diverse technological forms, adding that investing in them means global competition for Nigeria.
Ayoola highlighted the poor funding of mathematical research in Nigeria, specifying the exclusion of the mathematical sciences by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
The professor implored students to venture into other disciplines like quantum computing and quantum information science, as they are growing exponentially.
