Education Minister Ordered to End ASUU Strike

Olatunji Alausa, Minister of Education

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of Education, Olatunji Alausa, to urgently resolve the ongoing industrial dispute with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to prevent further disruption of academic activities nationwide.

Alausa, who briefed reporters after meeting the President at the Aso Rock Villa on Tuesday, said the government had already met “literally all” of ASUU’s demands and was seeking additional concessions from the President to fast-track a resolution.

“The President has mandated us that he does not want ASUU to go on strike. We have met nearly all their requirements and are now back at the negotiation table,” Alausa said.

He added that a single committee, led by Yayale Ahmed, now handles negotiations with all tertiary education unions, including ASUU, ASUP, and the Colleges of Education Staff Union, to streamline talks and avoid overlapping efforts.

Alausa also announced the launch of the Federal Tertiary Institution Governance and Transparency Portal to improve accountability in funding, enrolment, and intervention projects.
He assured Nigerians that the situation was “calm” and that the government remained committed to keeping students in school.
