The Lagos Egbeda Lions Club has donated exercise books to pupils of Ore Ofe Nursery and Primary School, Agege, and State Primary School, Dopemu, in commemoration of World Literacy Day.
The President of the club, Mrs Ijeoma Udeh, said the gesture was part of its “Back-to-School” service project, aimed at supporting pupils, including those with special needs, and easing the burden on parents.
“You do not send a child to a farm without giving the child the tools to work. In the same way, we believe every child should have the basic materials to learn comfortably in class,” she said.
Udeh noted that the visit to Ore Ofe School revealed other pressing needs, such as equipping the sick bay and improving water supply, which the club may consider addressing in future projects.
She added that since assuming office in July, the club has undertaken initiatives, including free blood donation to the Lagos State Blood Bank, with more projects planned in cancer awareness, diabetes care, environmental protection, hunger relief, disaster support, and vision care.
