Ekiti Government Releases N1.2 Billion for Schools in 2024/2025 Session

The Ekiti State Government has approved a total of ₦1.2 billion as running grants for public primary and secondary schools, technical colleges, and special schools across the state for the 2024/2025 academic session.

This was announced by the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, in Ado Ekiti. He explained that the government is committed to improving education and ensuring a better learning environment for students across the state.

According to him, the breakdown of the funds includes ₦602.3 million for secondary schools, ₦381.2 million for primary schools, and ₦10.7 million for technical colleges. The three government special schools are also receiving ₦15.4 million monthly for feeding, maintenance, and therapy services for students with disabilities. Olatunbosun added that the state has already spent ₦11.3 billion on renovating and constructing facilities in 203 public secondary schools under the World Bank-supported AGILE project. It also paid over ₦6.1 billion as counterpart funding to UBEC for projects in 927 public primary schools.

Other spending includes ₦174 million for primary school instructional materials and ₦16 million for assessment documents in secondary schools. To date, over 1,100 classrooms have been renovated, 83 new classrooms have been constructed, and 419 toilets have been installed, while 32 boreholes have been drilled to provide a water supply.

The state also renovated and equipped 18 libraries, 105 science labs, and 67 multipurpose halls, among others. The Commissioner warned school heads against engaging in any corrupt practices or misrepresentation to attract illegal donations. He called on all residents to protect school facilities, stressing that public property must be maintained to support development and community well-being. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to free and quality education for all school-age children in the state.
