Excel College, Ejigbo, has reacted to a viral video showing ex-students drinking and smoking in its hostel, confirming the incidents but stressing that corrective steps have been taken.
The school explained that the first video, recorded in May, showed students drinking non-alcoholic wine brought by a parent to celebrate her son’s birthday. Another video from April captured SS3 leavers experimenting with smoking in what they called a “pass and puff” game.
Following a parent’s report, the school launched an internal probe. The implicated students were expelled from the hostel, barred from graduation, and later readmitted only to sit for examinations after written undertakings. Housemasters received warning letters and lost their allowances.
Management also introduced reforms, including relocating the SS3 reading room to an open area, stricter staff monitoring, and improved counselling.
The college said it has submitted all documents to government investigators and pledged full cooperation. Director Dr Dele Oke assured parents of the school’s commitment to integrity and discipline.
