The Federal Executive Council has approved a new policy making it mandatory for all prospective corps members to upload their final year thesis to the Nigerian Education Repository and Databank (NERD) before mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps.
The directive, effective from the 2025 Batch C stream, requires graduates to complete the upload process and obtain a clearance slip before registering at NYSC orientation camps.
According to the government, the move aims to create a national academic database for record verification, curb plagiarism and preserve students’ research output for future reference.
Under the new process, graduates must submit their thesis through the NERD online portal, run an AI plagiarism check, and receive supervisor approval before generating a National Document Number and submission certificate.
Failure to complete the upload or verification steps may lead to disqualification from mobilisation.
Officials said the initiative would enhance the credibility of Nigeria’s tertiary education system and promote digital archiving of research.
Graduates have been advised to complete the process early and print their clearance slips ahead of NYSC registration to avoid last-minute delays.
