The Federal Government has signed a partnership agreement with Achievers University, Owo, and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, to enhance medical education and training in Nigeria.
The agreement, signed in Abuja, enables Achievers University to utilise FMC Owo’s facilities for training its students in medicine, nursing, and other health-related disciplines. This move is part of President Tinubu’s health agenda to boost public-private partnerships and tackle the shortage of healthcare workers. Minister of State for Health, Dr Iziaq Salako, praised the partnership, calling it strategic and timely. He emphasised the need to expand training facilities as more Nigerian health workers migrate abroad.
Achievers University’s Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, said the MoU marks a new era of quality medical education and was achieved without political influence. FMC Owo’s Medical Director, Dr Hamed Liasu, confirmed the hospital’s readiness to support the training and possibly serve as a future teaching hospital for the university.
