The Federal Government has debunked reports claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will no longer be required for admission into tertiary institutions.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, Mrs Folasade Boriowo, quoted the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, as describing the report as false and misleading.
Alausa said the Ministry neither issued nor authorised any statement suggesting JAMB’s role had been scrapped.
“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria,” he said.
He urged students, parents, and institutions to disregard the report and rely only on verified information from official channels of the Ministry and JAMB.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and merit in the admission process and warned media outlets against publishing unverified claims that could mislead the public.
