FG unveils Student Venture Capital Grant, an initiative providing equity-free grants of up to ₦50 million
The Federal Government has opened applications for the N50 million Student Venture Capital Fund, which aims to support student innovations in STEMM fields.
The scheme provides up to N50 million in equity-free grants, alongside mentorship and access to resources needed to scale startups, the Ministry of Education said.
The initiative seeks to transform student-driven ideas into high-impact, commercially viable ventures. Successful applicants will join a support ecosystem connecting them with experienced entrepreneurs and industry leaders.
However, the Forum of Parents and Guardians of Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholars has raised an alarm over the prolonged neglect of Nigerian students studying abroad. At a press briefing in Abuja, the group highlighted three years of unpaid stipends, leaving scholars stranded across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa.
The crisis recently led to the death of a BEA scholar in Morocco, sparking outrage and urgent calls for government intervention. The forum accused the Federal Scholarship Board of failing to pay full entitlements for three consecutive years, noting that no stipends have been paid this year.
Abang Matthew, representing the parents, condemned the government’s inaction, stressing that the tragedy was preventable and underscoring the need for immediate support for Nigerian students abroad.
