The Federal Government is pushing states to accelerate the adoption of the National Policy on Skills Development, a framework aimed at transforming the integration of practical, industry-relevant training into formal and non-formal education systems.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, emphasised the urgency of implementing the policy to equip Nigerians with market-ready skills. “The National Policy on Skills Development is a blueprint for empowering our youth and adults with practical competencies that align with industry needs. States must act swiftly to integrate this into their education systems,” Alausa stated.
The policy, approved earlier this year, seeks to overhaul Nigeria’s education system by embedding vocational and technical training in schools, colleges, and community learning centres, focusing on critical sectors such as technology, agriculture, manufacturing, and renewable energy.
